Organized retail's share of Turkey's food market rose from 41.8% in 2014 to 67.3% in 2025. What the growing supermarket channel means for fresh fruit and vegetable suppliers.

Food shopping in Turkey has shifted rapidly toward supermarkets and retail chains over the past decade. That shift is also reshaping the fresh fruit and vegetable supply chain: alongside the traditional wholesale-market route, demand is growing for suppliers who can maintain a direct, stable supply relationship.

From 41.8% to 67.3% in a decade

According to the June 2026 Retail Foods Annual - Türkiye report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service (USDA FAS), organized/modern retail's share of total food retail grew by 25.5 percentage points over the decade:

By market share, the leading chains are BİM (18.4%), Migros (9.2%), A101 (7.8%), Şok (6.0%), and CarrefourSA (1.8%) - together, these five chains account for a substantial share of the market.

What it means for fresh fruit and vegetable suppliers

Organized retail - covering hypermarket, supermarket, and discount-store chains that operate with centralized purchasing and standardized quality criteria - is growing, and with it comes an expectation that suppliers work with steady volume, consistent caliber, and packaging that fits a chain's own shelf and brand standards, much the same discipline export markets have long required.
